Learning languages at Canons certainly isn’t boring! On 7th November, girls in Yrs 8 & 9, and boys of the same age from Merchant Taylor’s School, were treated to a fantastic performance of “Lazarillo”, a play performed entirely in Spanish by a company of professional actors. It was very entertaining.

The play had a simple plot: a man, Lazaro, told the audience of his troubled and turbulent childhood working under a variety of cruel masters, and how he came to be successful and live a respectable lifestyle. The play was told in a comic manner, making effective use of props, costumes and lighting. The Spanish was of a reasonable standard for the audience, the majority who were about thirteen years old, but a glossary was included for certain challenging words.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable play, and one which will be invaluable in the girls’ understanding and enjoyment of the Spanish language.
