Welcome to the Flour Babies
The head count in Year 6 has doubled thanks to plenty of activity during the half term holiday! The girls went home before the break with a square of calico and instructions for producing a ‘flour baby'! The idea is based on a book of the same name by Anne Fine and focuses on teaching, in the book's case, 15 year old boys about the trials and tribulations of caring for something. Our girls are younger and, perhaps, a little less reluctant.

So, in came Miley and Kenadie, a variety of Roses, Rosies and Cherry Roses, Maisies and Daisies, a Dotty and, oh yes, a couple of boys!
The girls had sewn the fabric, filled it with flour, painted faces, added a little hair, provided babygros and the odd nappy and carted the babies into school. They sat around the classroom in prams, car seats and shoes boxes and were very little trouble once the register had been taken!

Arrangements have been made to protect the babes from the noise of the dining room, as there is now a rota for a lunch time crèche. We have dealt with the problems of swimming and assembly and the babies have been for their first tennis lesson.
The younger girls have taken a great interest in this venture and are keeping a close eye on the flour babies, making sure that they are not left unattended and that they are well cared for. The girls will keep daily diaries for the duration of the two-week project so watch this space - we'll let you know how the (very) young mums are coping!
