On 28th March, Yr 10 pupils from Heathland School arrived at North London for an afternoon of lively debating. Girls were paired with students from Heathland to research and prepare the debates.
With the debates prepared, and nerves on edge, both schools threw themselves into a broad spectrum of subject-based debates, which ranged from the ethical arguments of Augustine's War theory to the implications of using a single, global language for mankind. Our attention was focussed not on the confined syllabuses that rule the classroom, but rather on that much spoken of but ever-elusive educational enrichment, where we could listen to diverse points of view.
A controversial and memorable debate included "This house believes Wikileaks is good for democracy", and on opening to the floor it turned into a heated discussion! Pupils from both schools enjoyed the experience andĀ overall it proved to be a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.
