Canonaid

Canonaid is the name of the Sixth Form charity and community service committee. Every term the whole school chooses a new charity to support and Canonaid raises money for this charity through weekly collections and informative assemblies.

In addition, members of the committee supervise a wide range of community service activities for the whole of the Senior School. Each member has a specific responsibility, such as finance, publicity or liaison with different form groups from Yrs 7 to 13. Girls from the committee organise weekly visits to a local school for children with severe disabilities and also to the local John Grooms homes for adults with learning difficulties.

There are two other charity committees for girls from younger age groups, and Canonaid members work closely with them, helping them with ideas and activities. They also organise an annual Fun Day with the local Mencap branch; children of all ages come to the school on a Sunday and enjoy the facilities and play together. Other Canonaid projects include an annual harvest festival collection for national and international projects and the organisation of a talent show in collaboration with Asian society, again to raise money for a charity of the girls’ choice.
