On Wednesday 10th March, all Yr 9 girls ventured out of school and into the world of work for ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day'. Girls spent the working day with parents, other relatives or friends of the family in a very wide range of career areas. We are very grateful to all those who put so much effort into making these visits to the work-place possible and so enjoyable for the students involved. The variety of fields visited this year was particularly impressive, with girls exploring everything from performing arts to engineering, medical care to fashion.

Each student has written up a report on her experience, which make for fascinating reading and show the huge amount learned during the day, both in terms of factual information and wider awareness of the workplace. Six girls inspired the rest of the year group with their presentations in assembly about where they had been on the day. Prizes will be awarded for the best written reports.

Excerpts from Yr 9 Take Your Daughter to Work Day reports and their reactions to the day:

"I had an amazing day and I learnt a lot from the experience." Orla Brennan 9M

"Today I have learnt that you have to have a wide variety of skills to become an architect, not just knowing how to draw. The most interesting thing I found out was how to draw a scale diagram of a proposed idea on the computer and by hand." Puja Dodhia 9N

"Overall I gained a vast amount of knowledge about the job and I really enjoyed the day in the life of a solicitor." Tanvi Shah 9N

"It was certainly very inspiring to watch [my father] work as I can see that he is very good at doing his job and I am very grateful for the opportunity to be able to go to work with him." Sarah Clarence-Smith 9B

"The main thing I have learnt from this experience is to do what you love, and that you can always learn something new." Nicky Robertson 9F

"I have learnt from the day that you shouldn't overlook any job; that every small department in an organisation matters. Without that small pillar of the workplace, everything would crumble." Amalia Morris 9M

"I am now one step closer to understanding what I want to do when I grow up." India Albini 9L

"To sum up, this day was truly a great experience. It helped me to understand what life in an office would involve and how it would feel. And, if this is anything to go by, I definitely liked what I saw." Phoebe Orwell 9L
