Yr 10 Careers Morning: Friday 7th May
Friday 7th May saw all Yr 10 students off-timetable for a morning of Careers-related activities on the theme of ‘Skills for Employment'. The course encouraged students to consider not only what employers are looking for but also how many of these skills they already have. Eight visiting speakers addressed the girls giving details of their professional lives including career paths, a typical day, qualifications needed to enter the profession and other advice on preparing for the workplace. We are most grateful to our visitors for giving up their time to work with NLCS students and offer some inspirational ideas. The professional fields represented were Accountancy, Banking, Business/Technology, Engineering, Journalism/Media, Law, Medicine, and the Oil and Gas industry. In the final section of a busy morning, the students took part in a workshop which explained to them how they should identify the skills which they already have and how to expand and extend these. All this prepares the girls thoroughly for writing CVs and letters of application for Work Experience in Year 11.
