Yr 9 Take Your Daughter to Work Day 2011

On Wednesday 23rd March 2011, all Year 9 girls ventured out of school and into the world of work for ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day'. Girls spent the working day with parents, other relatives or friends of the family in a very wide range of career areas. We are very grateful to all those who put so much effort into making these visits to the work-place possible and so enjoyable for the students involved. The variety of fields visited this year was particularly impressive, with girls exploring everything from performing arts to law, medical care to fashion.

Each student has written up a report on her experience, which make for fascinating reading and show the huge amount learned during the day, both in terms of factual information and wider awareness of the workplace. Six girls inspired the rest of the year group with their presentations in assembly about where they had been on the day. Prizes were awarded for the best written reports.

Twenty nine girls received ‘Special Commendations' for the effort they had put into their reports and finding their placements.

Six girls were awarded ‘Best in Form Report' these were:

9N - Victoria Blackburn

9L - Elyssia de Rougemont

9C - Amelia Young

9F - Tarini Sharda

9M - Ella Buluwela

9B - Riya Patel

Laura Pujos in 9M was awarded the ‘Best Overall Report'.  There is a link to Laura's full report at the bottom of the page.

A few excerpts from Yr 9 ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day' reports and their reactions to the day:

"From my day at the BBC, I have learnt that confidence is key - if you believe in yourself and what you're doing, others will too...It is incredible just how much time and effort goes into making every little detail perfect." Victoria Blackburn who spent the day with Russel Minton a BBC producer.

"This experience has given me much more insight into what I might want to be when I'm older, and helped me to understand that if you work in a field that you love, even late nights at the office can be fun." Elyssia de Rougemont who spent the day at ‘Purpose' at graphic brand design company.

"What I learnt was that the atmosphere of your work relies on the people...also the most important thing is that you enjoy the job you do" Amelia Young who visited Dazed and Confused Magazine.

"My gruelling day began at 6 o'clock in the morning as I got up and got ready to embrace the day ahead...The day had rushed by so quickly and by the end of it I was exhausted...I learnt a lot from today and salute my mum's patience!" Tarini Sharda who visited Salusbury Primary School.

"My day at the Department of Oncology was amazing; I learnt an incredible amount and met some truly inspiring people.  The work that they are doing is potentially life changing and their years of research and hard work is bringing us one step closer in the mission to find a cure for cancer." Ella Buluwela who visited the Department of Oncology at Imperial College.
