Forthcoming Careers events...

Year 9 ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day': Thursday 8th March 2012

Girls spend the working day shadowing their parents, other relatives or friends of the family.  Each student conducts an interview with the person they are shadowing and writes up a report on her experience, which always make fascinating reading and show the huge amount learned during the day, both in terms of factual information and wider awareness of the workplace. Prizes are awarded for the best written reports.

Year 11 Work Experience: 2012

All Year 11 pupils are encouraged to secure at least one work experience placement after their GCSE examinations. These placements range in length from a couple of days to a fortnight, although the majority last one week. We rely on the contributions of ONLs, parents and other professionals with links to the school to provide this extremely worthwhile opportunity for our students. If you think that you may be able to help us by offering a work experience placement to a Year 11 pupil, please contact Mrs E Breffit in the Careers Department (via email: ebreffit@nlcs.org.uk).

Year 10 Careers Day:  June 2012

Year 10 students are off timetable for activities designed to enrich them beyond the curriculum. Students take part in a range of activities exploring the idea of identifying employability skills. During the course of the sessions, students will work with volunteering members of various professions on a series of tasks, culminating in identifying and articulating their own skills. This will then be linked to the idea of CV writing, which the students will be exploring as part of the Year 11 PSHE course. There will also be an opportunity for students to question our volunteers on their professions and career paths.

Careers Convention 2013

This is an evening event for which volunteers (some of whom are linked to the school, for example, parents of current or former pupils, and ONLs) are invited in from a wide range of professions to talk on a one-to-one informal basis with NLCS pupils. All students from Yr 9-13 are invited to attend and put their questions to visitors. The last Careers Convention in November 2011 saw roughly 80 professionals alongside 4 key speakers on the areas of the Civil Service, Finance, Broadcasting and Publishing. If you would be willing to help at the event and represent your professional field, please do get in touch. More details to follow in 2013.
