The Bad Time Rhymes Awards, a poetry competition run in conjunction with Grief Encounter, took place on the 21st February at Waterstones book store in Piccadilly. It was judged by the Poet Laureate, Andrew Motion, and Kevin Wells, Grief Encounter Patron and father of Holly Wells who lost her life tragically at Soham in Cambridgeshire.
Beatriz Santos, Yr 6, was invited to attend this very prestigious event as the runner up in the age 7-11 category. She wrote her poem, about the death of her grandmother, as part of a class poetry focus in Yr 5. The standard of the poems that were selected for the book was extremely high and Beatriz should be very proud for her work to be included. The judges also chose to include Beatriz’s pencil sketch, which is printed alongside her moving poem. Beatriz also won a wonderful selection of goodies, including an iPod Shuffle.
The ‘Bad Time Rhymes Poetry Book’ is now available from Waterstones book stores.
