The Modern Languages Department is firmly committed to exchanges as the most authentic and rewarding language-learning experience, and has many links with schools abroad. In French we run exchanges with schools in Chambéry, Paris and Fontainebleau, whilst in Spanish we have exchanges with schools in Madrid and, for the first time this year, Bogotá, Colombia. We are also actively seeking to extend our exchanges programme, and we very much hope to have another Spanish exchange with a school in Málaga, as well as our first-ever Russian exchange with a school in the Crimea, starting in 2014.
Our German Department runs a historic exchange with the Goethe-Gymnasium in Ludwigsburg. This exchange was initiated by two Jewish teachers just after the war, one at NLCS and one in Germany, and in 2013 the exchange celebrated its 64th year. We have recently extended the Ludwigsburg exchange to incorporate a work experience element for girls in Year 12.
